Emmy grew up on a farm with over 100 emus—and now ticks like a clock thanks to her metal heart valve! Emmy’s a one-of-a-kind nurse with grit, warmth, and unforgettable stories.
From Grooming to Guiding: 15 Years of Heartfelt Care
Since the age of 18, Emily Hogan —known to most as Nurse Emmy—has been professionally caring for animals.
She’s been a vet nurse for 15 years and a dog groomer for 10. At Lilydale Vet Centre, she brings empathy, experience, and sharp insight—especially for pets who need extra understanding.
Behaviour, Trust, and the Power of Puppies
Emmy has a deep passion for animal behaviour, shaped by rescuing anxious pets and years of learning from dog trainers and clubs.
Her favourite part of the job? Helping puppies build confidence in our Puppy Playschool Program.
Emmy’s philosophy is that boundaries only work when there’s trust. That’s why she puts her energy into helping pet parents understand their animals’ body language, triggers, and emotional needs.
From Surgery to Storybooks
A typical day for Emmy starts with morning cuddles with resident clinic cat Squishy, followed by preparing for the incoming admissions, surgeries, recoveries, and (you guessed it) a lot of cleaning.
One of her most unforgettable moments? Assisting with a British Bulldog C-section that delivered eleven puppies!
Outside of work, Emmy is an avid reader who devours fantasy novels between sips of her go-to fuel: lots of coffee.
Home Is Where the Herd Is
Emmy is proudly “rabbit crazy” with three girls—Butterfly, Cinnamon, and Buttons. Butterfly, now six, still misses her mate Captain Feathersword, while Cinnamon and Buttons are often found couch-jumping and sneakily stealing snacks.
At home, Emmy also lives with Bam, her clever Kelpie who once loved bike rides and now opens baby gates—and even the fridge! He’s calm, loyal, and bonded to the rabbits as his emotional support crew.
Then there’s Belle, her cuddly Maltese cross, who rules the house with gentle walks and couch cuddles.
If you see Nurse Emmy wave at Lilydale Vet Centre, don’t be shy—she’s always ready with a warm smile, practical advice, and probably a book recommendation, too.
